Upgrading Printer Model in RSB Frame Spot Welding Robotic Station
Project Type
Industrial Control Programming
Date
June 2015
Location
Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.
Company
Lear Corporation
In this project, I successfully upgraded a deprecated laser printer model in a Rear Seat Back (RSB) frame Spot Welding Robotic Station. The department had struggled for years to update the printers used in labeling machines at the station’s output. While most printers in the plant (around 20) had been replaced, two remained unresolved due to persistent technical challenges. Previous attempts by plant engineers and suppliers had been unsuccessful.
My Contributions:
Analyzed system logs and gathered data from the internal tracking system.
Developed and programmed a PLC routine to process and send label data to the printer.
Configured the PLC-to-printer communication, handling data transmission and trigger signals.
After days of troubleshooting, I discovered that the missing link was an intermediate RTA module that had not been properly reconfigured. This module was crucial in enabling communication between the new printer model and the system. By reprogramming it, I achieved a seamless integration, resolving a long-standing issue.
The project’s success earned me Employee of the Month recognition, highlighting my problem-solving skills and ability to overcome technical roadblocks where others had previously struggled.
